administration-1846270_640Denis McDonough, White House chief of staff, believes that Barack Obama is “the most Catholic of presidents.”

McDonough apparently made the claim during a conversation with Obama’s former senior advisor David Axelrod on his podcast, “The Axe Files.” According to The Blaze, McDonough said,

“…I’ve said this publicly before, I think this is our most Catholic of presidents. And I mean that by capital ‘C’ Catholic in what I see and what he does everyday.”

To which I say, “WHAT?!”

Apparently, McDonough isn’t familiar with Catholic moral theology regarding abortion and the sanctity of life, use of abortifacients, marriage between one man and one woman, religious liberty, the role of the family, and many other issues.

Kate Scanlon, writing at The Blaze, points out the incongruity of McDonough’s statement:

Obama has frequently been criticized by Catholics for his positions on issues such as abortion. Also, many Catholics vehemently fought the president’s signature law, the Affordable Care Act, which mandates that religious organizations provide insurance that covers birth control to their employees. Several Catholic groups, such as the Little Sisters of the Poor, an order of nuns that care for the elderly poor, sued the Obama administration over the provision. Both abortion and artificial contraceptives violate Catholic Church teaching.

Yep, it really happened. Read the rest here.
